Rise of the Wicked
The hidden preparation and ideological machinery behind the modern crisis.
The complete series
Two novellas expose the buried machinery of the conflict. Three novels carry the awakening through war, aftermath, and the contested future that follows.
Recommended reading order
This route preserves the major reveals while placing the companion Stone mission immediately after the war it intersects.
The hidden preparation and ideological machinery behind the modern crisis.
The awakening, revelation, rebellion, and first global collision.
A companion mission unfolding inside the closing pressure of Book One.
The postwar order confronts exploitation, witchcraft, and occupied artifacts.
Law, biology, faith, and identity force the world beyond temporary peace.
Before the awakening
A damaged chapel, a hidden chamber, and a policy campaign that reaches much farther back than any government understands.
Father Cedric is trying to preserve an institution already being dismantled by modern law. Beneath his chapel waits evidence that the struggle over faith, magic, and authority did not begin with him. As political pressure closes in, he is drawn into the work of Rasputin and the organization called the Wicked, where reform and manipulation have become almost impossible to separate.
Core tensions: institutional faith, political engineering, ancient memory, secrecy, and the price of preparing humanity for a truth it does not know is coming.
The main sequence begins
Magic crosses a threshold. Ancient dens open. The people fleeing the dragons may carry dragon blood themselves.
Osiseris awakens over Baghdad expecting a world prepared for the return of the Elders. Instead he finds humanity technologically dominant, spiritually fractured, and unaware that dragons were ever real. Across the world, governments, soldiers, mages, hidden descendants, and the surviving Elders are forced into a conflict over what the old order was and whether it deserves to return.
Core tensions: awakening, species identity, rebellion, military response, dragon hierarchy, friendship, and the first attempt to write law around impossible power.
The mission beneath the war
An ancient weapon that can silence magic resurfaces, and a small team must move it through a war in which every side understands only part of what it is.
Built around the Silence Stone, this companion story follows a constrained recovery mission where logistics, weather, custody, and incomplete intelligence matter as much as courage. Its events intersect the final pressure of A Destiny of Dragons and expose consequences that become central to everything that follows.
Core tensions: artifact custody, null magic, tactical survival, ancient crimes, mission discipline, and the cost of using a weapon no one fully understands.
Peace becomes evidence
The war has ended. The extraction economy begins.
The Accords create a fragile legal order among humans, dragons, and mages. Then dragon remains become raw material, temporary magic becomes industry, and permanent talismans reveal a crime far worse than anyone expected. Investigators must determine whether the objects in their evidence rooms are weapons, remains, or conscious prisoners.
Core tensions: reconstruction, body trafficking, witch networks, law enforcement, atrocity evidence, institutional corruption, and the ethics of power built from sentient suffering.
The inherited world
The first public morning is not the end of secrecy. It is the beginning of governance.
A new dragon life becomes a question no old hierarchy can answer. Mage fertility changes what coexistence means. Governments confront representation, custody, territory, and inherited power while dragons confront personhood, family, and a future that cannot simply recreate the past.
Core tensions: consent, belonging, law, reproduction, public identity, faith after proof, political representation, and whether a shared future can exist without another species owning it.
